Ibuprofen is an over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug generally used to treat mild to moderate pain due to inflammation, swelling, stiffness and even joint pain. It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body and is also used to treat common aches and pains such as fever, arthritis pain and menstrual cramps.

DOSAGE:

Ibuprofen comes in oral suspension, oral tablet, oral tablet, chewable, oral capsule, compounding powder, intravenous solution.

HOW IBUPROFEN SHOULD BE TAKEN:

Use ibuprofen exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor.

Not to be taken more than your recommended dose as it can damage the stomach and intestines.

A child’s dose of ibuprofen is based on the age and weight of the child. Carefully follow the dosing instructions and ask your doctor if you have questions.

Take with food or milk to lessen stomach upset.

Chew ibuprofen tablet chewable before swallowing.

Shake the oral suspension well before you measure a dose with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup.

Medical tests may be needed with long-term use.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not allow the liquid medicine to freeze. Keep away from children’s reach.

Read all patient information, medication guides, and instruction sheets. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

PRECAUTIONS

Ibuprofen should not be taken if pregnant or breastfeeding without doctor’s advice.

Do not give to children younger than 2 years old and without doctor’s advice.

Inform the doctor of any history or present illness and the medicines taken as these may have an effect to health or interaction with the other medicines’ drug components.

Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).

May cause stomach or intestinal bleeding with long term use especially in adults.

Ibuprofen should not be taken if you are allergic to it, or if you have ever had an asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID.

With long term use or high doses, ibuprofen can increase the risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, even to people without heart disease or risk factors.

Avoid taking ibuprofen while taking aspirin to prevent stroke or heart attack. Ask for doctor’s advice before taking the medication.

Avoid drinking alcohol as it may cause stomach bleeding.
